Ryan grew up in Comfort, Texas, where he accepted Christ as a child. It was not until he was 12 years old that he began to realize that being a Christian meant more than getting out of Hell. It meant having a  moment-by-moment relationship with Christ that will stretch into eternity. After high school, that relationship with Christ led Ryan to doing two years of school at a Torchbearers Bible college and then three years at Columbia International University, where he majored in Bible and Psychology.

The Lord started to reveal to Ryan His heart for kids during Ryan’s summers as a camp counselor. It was during those summers of ministering to youth that Ryan saw the immense impact Christ can have on the lives of young people through Christian adult mentors, even after just a week with them. It was that short impact that led Ryan to want to have a long, consistent impact in the lives of kids for Christ. That is why Ryan, and his wife, Melissa, are at The Open Door. It is their desire that the young people learn to call on the name of the Lord for themselves (Rom. 10:13), so that they will grow in wisdom and stature and favor with God and man (Lk. 2:52), just as Christ grew.
